Bogart’s Mountain

Bogart shared his life with his littermates, Paris and Ciara, in the Western North Carolina mountains. Their family story begins long before illness—with devotion, personality, routines, laughter and the quiet language that grows between animals and the people who truly know them.

This family archive will grow into individual pages for Bogart, Paris, Ciara, their dam Coco and the Collie lineage that shaped them.

Bogart’s illness did not merely begin a medical journey. It opened a door into a system his family had never expected to question so deeply.

Jill Lanese researched around the clock—often beginning at four or five in the morning and sleeping only two or three hours—trying to understand the disease, the treatment, the risks and the options. Before Bogart died, that work had exceeded 2,000 hours. It did not stop when he did.

The search expanded into peer-reviewed literature, treatment protocols, MDR1 drug sensitivity, nutrition, supportive care, adverse-event grading and the gaps between published knowledge and what families may hear in the exam room.

Grief could have ended the search. Instead, the search became Bogart’s Legacy.

This website will preserve both timelines: the life and medical journey of one extraordinary dog, and the body of knowledge created because his family refused to stop asking what happened—and what must change.

This evolving library will organize the papers, source materials, case questions and evidence maps behind Bogart’s Legacy.

Our work is owner-led and research-driven. It does not replace veterinary diagnosis or treatment. It is designed to make overlooked questions visible, document the evidence supporting them and invite qualified scrutiny.

Families deserve the information required to make truly informed decisions.
